New WorldLend GUI Underway

The initial work on the reengineering of the WorldLend GUI Trading Workstation (commonly referred to as the WorldLend GUI) is underway.  The original WorldLend GUI workstation represents a “thick” client architecture, requiring WorldLend supplied software installed on each user desktop utilizing the WorldLend GUI.  The new WorldLend GUI workstation represents a “thin” client architecture, requiring no WorldLend supplied software installed on each user desktop utilizing the WorldLend GUI … only Internet Explorer.

The reasons for developing the new WorldLend GUI are

  • To replace software which will soon be unable to receive vendor (Microsoft) support (VB6).
  • To make it easier to receive upgrades (requires only a server level update, not updates to each user desktop).
  • Allows more easily extending the product with additional functionality for those customers desiring such features.

WorldLend staff has deferred initiating development work on the new WorldLend GUI in order to allow SunGard to complete core software (recently proven on Loanet applications) upon which to reengineer the WorldLend GUI.  The underlying architecture is ASP.NET 2.0 (Microsoft Framework 2.0).

A summary document describing the new GUI architecture is available; please request from WorldLend Support if you would like a copy.
